Mission Statement
Queen of Peace is a Catholic
parish school centered in Gospel values and dedicated to the spiritual and
educational development of the whole child.
|
|
History of Our School
Queen of Peace
Parish was established in 1964. The school opened the following year with 4
grades in 2 classrooms. One grade was added each succeeding year until 1968,
when Queen of Peace became a full, eight-year elementary school. Originally
operated by the Holy Names Sisters, the school is now staffed entirely by lay
teachers.
Today, Queen of Peace School offers a
comprehensive, Catholic education for children in Pre-Kindergarten
through sixth grade. QPS provides a curriculum that has a strong focus
on educating the whole child -- spiritually, academically and socially.
In addition to core classes, Spanish, Music, Physical Education,
and Computers are also offered. Religious education takes place in the
classroom, but also through attendance at weekly Mass or prayer
services.
Service to others is emphasized and children
participate in projects ranging from collecting food for the Table of
Plenty to raising money for children in the Pimpollo Orphanage.
Being good stewards of God's gift of our
environment is also very important. We have been working towards
becoming a 'green' school over the past year. Students, faculty, and staff recycle and find ways to reuse as
many things as is practical. In September 2010, the school will become
the first collection site for plastic bags and Styrafoam located in
South Salem.
Our pastor, Fr. Timothy Mockaitis, has been at
Queen of Peace since 2006.
Principal Debilyn Janota has been at the school
since 1994.

Philosophy
Queen of Peace School is a ministry of the Queen of Peace Catholic parish
community that offers an environment that supports the development of all its
members. We are committed to academic excellence in the context of the Church's
educational mission of teaching the Gospel message, building community, and
accepting the responsibility of service towards others.
We value education as a life-long process with its primary roots in the family.
We support the family by providing a strong foundation for the healthy
spiritual, academic, social, physical, cultural, and emotional growth of each
child. |
